ACRN meets with Canada’s Minister of Justice on Bill C-5 and Black Canadians Justice Strategy

The African Canadian Resource Network (ACRN) was honoured to have held a virtual meeting with Canada's Minister of Justice and Attorney General, the Honourable David Lametti on January 13, 2022, to discuss community concerns around the criminal justice system, bill C-5, and the Black Canadians Justice Strategy.

"ACRN has always championed discussions at municipal, provincial and federal levels on key issues facing African Canadians such as the relationship between increasing black youth incarceration and mental health," says Abdi Gure, Chair of the ACRN board of directors. "We look forward to concrete partnerships with government and agencies in tackling issues such as lack of educational and job opportunities; how governments can better support the communities through their organizations in running various programs that engage the youth thereby reducing youth incarceration."

ACRN thanks Minister Lametti for his candid concerns and openness to discuss these critical issues of major concern to both the black and First Nations' communities in Canada.

ACRN looks forward to continuing these discussions in the future.
